God’s Will

What is His will? Many verses state God’s will, far too many to contemplate in a short article. But let’s begin with Matthew 6:10. It’s the model prayer given by Jesus, and therein He states, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” God has a will for earth’s inhabitants. He wants every soul to repent so that none lose their soul in hell, 2 Peter 3:9. He wants people to be His kind of people, to give light to a dark world, Matthew 5:16. Thereby, He is glorified. He wants people to recognize Jesus as His Son, John 12:44. The Father wants all to live holy lives, 1 Peter 1:16.

Jesus came to do the Father’s will! John 6:38 has it that Jesus came to do the Father’s will. Jesus explains that the Father’s will is that of all the Father gives Him He loses nothing but raises it up on the last day – clearly a reference to all the souls coming to Jesus for eternal life. And the promise is that all souls who come to Him will be lifted up on the last day – the promise of the resurrection. In this, the Father’s will is that He who believes in Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God and obeys Him will have eternal life, Hebrews 5:9.

Jesus came as Light in the World! John 12:46 has it that Jesus came from heaven to give light to a dark, sinful world. If the world is dark, we cannot see where we are going. It’s easy to bump into things or to fall off a ledge. The world is dark because Satan is dark. He’s covered the world in sin. This is why it’s so essential Christians are light. After The Light ascended to heaven, Jesus, it remains for Christians to give the light to lost souls. John 12:46 has it that whoever sees the light of heaven will not walk in darkness but have eternal life. In this sense, light represents God’s clean, pure knowledge and His plan for salvation. This is God’s will, that everyone sees the light, turns from darkness, and lives eternally with Him.

Jesus came to Bear Witness to The Truth! Jesus was before Pilate on the night He was betrayed. The Jews had trumped-up charges against Jesus requiring death. The discussion between Pilate and Jesus has Jesus stating He is indeed a King, but a king not of this world. Jesus came into the world to testify to the truth. Jesus’ kingdom is spiritual. That kingdom exists right now, and Jesus is in heaven, reigning at the right hand of the Father, Luke 22:69. The truth? No one gets to heaven without truth. God’s truth is what He says, John 17:17. Jesus fulfilled the Father’s will by speaking His Father’s word, John 14:10.

Ignoring the Father’s will has a disastrous outcome. It’s always our choice to listen to God or not, to follow the Light or not, to believe or not. The “not” choice means hell.
