What You Need To Get Home After Baptism

Home is where the heart is – heaven.

Introduction

Baptism is the final step in God’s plan of salvation, Romans 6:3-5. It’s a new birth in Christ and the beginning of a journey toward our eternal home with God. But what comes after baptism? How do we navigate the path to ensure we reach our heavenly destination? We all need three essential points to get us home: Faithful ObedienceSpiritual Growth, and Christian Support.

Point 1: Faithful Obedience

Baptism is not the end, though; it’s the start of a life committed to following God’s will. Faithful obedience means living according to God’s Word every day.

GOD’S PLAN FOR SALVATION INCLUDES:

  • 1. FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST, JN 8:24
  • 2. REPENTANCE, LUKE 13:3
  • 3. CONFESSING JESUS, ROMANS 10:9-10
  • 4. BAPTISM, ACTS 2:38
  • Scripture: John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commands.
  • Explanation: Obedience is an expression of love for God. It involves prayer, studying Scripture, and aligning your life, what you say and do, and even think, with Christ’s teachings. Temptations and trials will come for sure, and they may well be hurtful, but staying obedient keeps you on the path. James has this: James 1:2-4. It’s often difficult to find joy during heartache, but know that God is developing you for heaven. It’s best to remember that one fact and keep it with you, always. You’ll need it for sure.
  • Application: Commit to a daily habit of prayer and Bible reading. When faced with decisions, ask, What would Jesus do? and follow through, even when it’s hard.

Point 2: Spiritual Growth

After baptism, you must grow in your relationship with God to stay strong on the journey. Spiritual growth involves deepening your faith and character through the Word and applying your knowledge in everyday life.

  • Scripture: 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Explanation: Like a plant needs water and sunlight, your soul needs regular nourishment through worship, reflection, and service. Growth transforms you into the image of Christ, preparing you for eternity. It can be said that Christians also need water, John 4:14, and light, John 8:12.
  • Application: Set aside time for personal devotion, attend church regularly, and serve others. Reflect on how God is shaping you through challenges and victories.

Point 3: Christian Support

The journey home is not meant to be walked alone. God provides a community of believers to support and strengthen you. It’s called the church of Christ. Our brethren help us along the journey!

  • Scripture: Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.
  • Explanation: Fellow Christians offer encouragement, accountability, and wisdom. They help you stay focused and lift you when you stumble. The church is your spiritual family, guiding each other toward home.
  • Application: Don’t miss a service. If the door is open, be there. Worship with the saints (Christians). Study with them. Build relationships with those who can pray for you, challenge you, and share the journey.

Conclusion
Baptism marks the beginning of your walk with Christ, but getting home requires Faithful ObedienceSpiritual Growth, and Christian Support. These three points are like a map, compass, and companions for your journey. Stay committed, keep growing, and lean on your church family. With these, you’ll not only start the race but finish it, arriving safely at your eternal home with God.
