Second Corinthians 4:4 gives a sobering explanation for why many people show little interest in Jesus: “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving.” Satan does not always make sin look frightening. Often, he makes it look ordinary, enjoyable, and harmless. He keeps people occupied with work, pleasure, possessions, and daily concerns until they have little room to consider their souls.
A blinded mind may still be intelligent, successful, and religious. Yet it cannot clearly see “the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” The problem is not that Jesus has failed to shine; it is that hearts can become closed to His truth. Pride, guilt, love for sin, and the influence of the world can keep a person from seeing what is plainly revealed in God’s Word.
But the gospel remains God’s power for salvation (Romans 1:16). We should not become bitter or silent when others are uninterested. Instead, we must pray, live faithfully, and lovingly point people to Jesus. His truth can break through the darkest blindness, and no one is beyond the reach of the gospel.
