We want a deeper understanding of the Bible. Many say meditation helps. But how do we do that? Listed below are some ideas for meditating on God’s word.
See the steps below to begin your Scripture meditation.
Here are some Key Points
- Choose a passage: Pick a verse.
- Read the context: Read the verses above and below the one you’ve chosen to understand it in context.
- Memorize: Try to memorize the passage. You can write it on a card or highlight it on your device.
- Contemplate: Consider each word in the passage and what it means about God, life, and His plan.
- Pray: Ask God to help you understand and apply the passage to your life.
- Ask questions: Consider what the passage means about God, yourself, the world, or the church. You can also ask what you don’t understand or what connections you can make with other parts of the Bible.
- Visualize: If the passage describes something, imagine what it would look like.
- Diagram: Draw out the verse in your journal to help you make sense of it.
- Find a quiet place: Choose a time and place to focus on the passage without distractions.
- Memorize while you work: Whisper the passage to yourself while doing chores or commuting. It’s best to obey God now; don’t say, “I have time,” for we do not know how many moments we have left. Salvation is the only way to heaven, finishing our earthly life in a loving relationship with Him.
